Wade Stephens Jr. is a qualified and seasoned instructor in many topics relating to the Corrections / Law Enforcement / Security fields. He is currently a certified instructor trainer in Bruce Siddles Human Factor Research Group (HFRG) Defensive Tactics System which includes the following disciplines: Threat Pattern Recognition (TPR), Pressure Point Control Tactics (PPCT), Spontaneous Knife Defense (SKD) Ground Avoidance Ground Escape (GAGE), and Sexual Harassment and Rape Prevention (SHARP). He has completed the Basic Instructor Development course through the FBI which is recognized as a certification to build legally defensible curriculum for his agency and/or organization.
He has been a part of Douglas County Department of Corrections (DCDC) training department for over fifteen years and is responsible for new hire development (6-week curriculum), frontline, and Executive staff training which happens initially and annually for all staff at DCDC. Wade is a member and Instructor of the Corrections Emergency Response Team (CERT) and is also a Team Leader.
He is an instructor in Direct Supervision, Jail Management Responder Training, Restraint Chair practical application, Verbal Defense and Influence (Verbal Judo), CPR First Aid/AED (ASHI) A/C restraint system instructor, Crisis Intervention Team (CIT), Field Training Officer (FTO) He works with and manages up to (and sometimes beyond) 62 high-profile inmates while serving as part of the Administrative Confinement (A/C) and Administrative Segregation (A/S) staff members at DCDC. These members of the A/C & A/S team deal with the high stress and volatile population held at DCDC. In addition to work in this high threat area, he also assists in training the staff members to operate safely in this environment. Most recently, Wade has earned the coveted instructor trainer certifications in threat pattern recognition, use of force (PPCT), ground control, and edged weapon control.
Wade has also created his own Women’s Self Defense program that he teaches in the private sector to colleges and Universities which include Metro Community College and the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He has also had the opportunity to teach self-defense to the young women at Girls Incorporated of Omaha. Wade also has specialized training in Combat Hapkido, weapons disarmament and weapon retention and holds the rank of 2nd Dan (Black Belt). Wade has received the prestigious Combat Hapkido Instructor of the Year award in 2023. Wade is also an Instructor through the International Police Defensive Tactics Institute (IPDTI) and Ground Survival (Combat Hapkido).
Wade is also a certified Executive Protection Specialist though ICON and Trojan Security and has provided close protection for entertainers, celebrities, movie stars, corporate and executives, political figures and has traveled the globe providing these services for 5x Grammy award winning vocalist Lalah Hathaway on a consistent basis. The American Jail Association (AJA) has certified him to train and teach with the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
